Governance of the GIS

GIS governance is based on the following bodies: the GIS Presidency, the Group Council, the Executive Secretariat, the Scientific Commission and the Species Groups.

The GIS Presidency convenes the Group Council and chairs its meetings. It represents the GIS on external national and international bodies.

The Group Council is a decision-making body made up of representatives of GIS members, which defines the general orientations of the GIS.

The Executive Secretary operates the GIS under the authority of the Group Council.

GIS Scientific Commission and Species Groups

The Chair of the Scientific Commission reports to the Group Council on the activities of the Scientific Commission, and may question the Group Council on any matter relating to the strategy and development of the GIS.

Sub-committees are set up for each species or group of species, bringing together breeding organizations, technical institutes and scientific experts who are members of the Scientific Commission, in order to evaluate projects submitted to the GIS and make the link with breeding applications. Species group leaders are members of the Scientific Commission.
